About Sam Ellis

I’ve always had a creative streak — and a love for food. Food photography turned out to be the sweet spot where both could live happily ever after.

My path here wasn’t a straight line. I actually started out as an engineer. (Yes, spreadsheets and circuit boards!) But somewhere along the way, I realized I was craving more creativity in my day-to-day. I wanted to build something beautiful and not just functional.

What began as a curiosity quickly grew into a full-time passion. I taught myself the ins and outs of photography nearly a decade ago, and I haven’t looked back. Today, I help brands bring their food to life through photography that tells a story — one that makes people want to cook, eat, and share.

My goal? To make food feel approachable, not intimidating. I love capturing moments that make people feel something — hunger, joy, nostalgia, connection.

I'm based in Maryland and work with clients all over Southern Maryland, D.C., Annapolis, and Baltimore. I also travel for the right projects (and if there's good coffee involved, even better).

Outside of work, I hang out with my very bossy dog, Tucker. I love a good charcuterie board and cocktail. And no, I don’t like olives — please don’t try to convert me.
